SPORTSWORLD FOR ATHENS 2004
17th December 2001
Sportsworld Group have been appointed by the British Olympic Association (BOA) as the official ticket and tour operator for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 and for the Olympic Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006.
CONFIRMED TICKET AND TOUR OPERATOR
This follows on from the huge success of the Sydney Olympics where Sportsworld handled ticket and travel arrangements for over 20,000 people - including 5000 from the UK, and involving the processing of over 200, 000 event tickets. The company has unrivalled Olympic experience having now operated tours to the last 10 Olympic Games and Olympic Winter Games, as well as numerous other major sporting events around the world.
Comments Marzena Bogdanowicz, Director of Marketing for the BOA; 'we are delighted to be able to re-appoint Sportsworld as our official ticket and tour operator for Athens and Turin. Their appointment after a comprehensive and competitive tender process continues a long standing relationship and means that we can draw on their proven Olympic experience to ensure that British spectators have access to the best possible event tickets and travel programmes'.
Athens is expected to be an extremely popular Games for visitors from the UK both because of its location and because it is, of course, the original home of the Olympics. Many people will use the Games as an extension to their main summer holiday in Greece. Over 1,000 people have already registered their interest with Sportsworld and the company expects high levels of bookings for the event.
Comments Simon Gillespie, Marketing Director of Sportsworld: 'Athens is set to be the most popular Olympics ever, hard on the heels of the success of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. With the Games back on mainland Europe, they will be much more attainable for British spectators, and we will be looking to offer a range of flexible and competitively priced travel programmes. Sportsworld will be offering a choice of durations from a few nights through to the full 18 days of competition for the real sports enthusiasts. Due to the accessibility of Athens for UK visitors, the company expects short stay programmes for 3 nights or less, to prove especially popular for first time Olympic travellers.
Pre-registration will take place in Spring 2002 with the official programmes being launched early 2003.
